Residential conversion of a former Factory Space:

A former factory and warehouse site was transformed into a single-family residence along with a recording studio and music studio.

As these separate spaces were created and some original roofed areas were removed, there was an opportunity to create a secluded and dynamic courtyard space. The courtyard space allows for greenery and connectivity between these spaces as well as a place to relax and dine outdoors.

The original rough hewn timber beams and brackets from the building portions removed were repurposed to create structural elements for the garden, seating benches and overhead post and beams. High 25 foot walls made this courtyard almost as completely enclosed and sheltered as it is possible to be in Toronto.

The hidden aspect of this courtyard made it an element of surprise for anyone who first encounters this warehouse conversion.
