Smaller Lot Offers Many Opportunities:
This older home was renovated and modernized by two young professionals. The traditional front porch and entry felt restrictive and out of date, and the multi-level backyard made full utilization of available space a challenge.
Opening up the front porch, removing railings and creating a full garden did much to add interest and a dialogue with the streetscape. The rear yard seemed to have elevation changes at every point, so the new deck was kept as small as possible where it was still comfortable and functional to maximize the main rear yard area. A water feature was integrated into the side fence line to add additional interest without taking too much space.
Columnar Beech trees added tall privacy without taking up a lot of space, and smaller ornamental trees added additional beauty and privacy.
