The existing deck was a large park of this compact Rosedale yard, but it required more shade and privacy to be a comfortable lounge space. A modern cedar pergola created a warm, room-like space, and defined the edges of the deck, providing a sense of separation from the adjacent yards.

The new cedar pergola was incorporated into the existing deck with minimal disruption, reusing elements of the railing.
Narrow cedar slats allow the space to remain warm and sunny, while the open railing keeps the space airy.
The clean lines give a modern feel to the cedar, a traditional material, and tie in with the existing deck.
3D renderings were used to help determine the preferred arrangement for the pergola slats, and test out the addition of a pull-down screen.
